Travel to Khajuraho, stopping at Orchha to tour the ancient fort complex. Orchha means ‘hidden.’ It is situated on the banks of the river Betwa in the state of Madhya Pradesh. There are huge palaces with views of the countryside from their upper levels. Continue on to Khajuraho. Dinner and overnight at Radisson or Taj Chandela Hotel (to be announced before departure).

Visit Khajuraho and its famous temples. Khajuraho has the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, famous for their erotic sculptures. The Khajuraho group of monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is considered to be one of the “seven wonders” of India. These temples were built between 950 A.D. and 1050 A.D. and represent some of the most exquisite specimens of art and architecture in medieval India. Only 22 temples of the original 85 now survive. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

The shoreline at VaranasiVaranasi, India’s cultural capital, which has been the major pilgrimage destination for Hindus since ancient times. Check in to your hotel. Later in the evening, witness the Aarti prayer ceremony on the bank of the holy River Ganges. Dinner and overnight at Gateway Taj or Radisson Hotel (to be announced before departure).

Early morning boat excursion on the holy river Ganges to see the bathing ghats and cremation sites. Watching people bathing and worshipping at the Ghats is one of the most extraordinary experiences of a visit to India. After breakfast at the hotel, tour the city visiting the Bharat Mata Temple with a big relief map of India in marble, Durga Temple, Tulsi Manas Mandir, Banaras Hindu University Art Gallery and the Mosque of Moghul Emperor Aurangzeb. Visit Sarnath, the buried Buddhist city where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. Sarnath was a renowned school of learning from the 6th century B.C. to 12th century. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
